Description
Summary:In this study, we examine the effectiveness of rectangular and trapezoidal submerged porous medium on reducing incoming wave using Two-Layer Shallow Water Type model. We formulate the analytical wave transmission coefficients from the model. Wave transmission coefficients is the ratio between the wave transmitted height and incoming wave amplitude. This coefficient is used for investigating the effectiveness of the porous submerged breakwater. Furthermore, the numerical model is formulated by the finite volume method on a staggered grid. Thereafter, we validate the numerical scheme by comparing its results to the analytical solutions and also the experimental solutions. The verified scheme is then ready to be implemented for simulating the wave attenuation over actual coastal areas. We believe that these findings would be beneficial in the design of a coastal protection system.
