Hypertension is disease known as the silent killer, because of no sightings of the early symptoms of the disease. The risk of morbidity and mortality will increase if hypertension occurs together with other diseases such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease and dyslipidemia. The nature of palliative treatment that causes the drug tends to be used by patient in a long time, and it will affect the cost. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of antihypertensive drugs in terms of therapeutic outcome and cost, from outpatients at UPT Yankes Bumi Medika Ganesha Bandung. The study was conducted retrospectively with direct cost-data collection for net price of pharmacy drugs medications, medical records and prescriptions data collection outpatients receiving antihypertensive treatment during the period January 2012 to July 2012. The evaluation was conducted using the Cost-Minimization Analysis and Cost-Effectiveness Analysis methods. In terms of the effectiveness of therapy, antihypertensive drug sorted from the best to the worst for systolic blood pressure were the captopril-HCT, amlodipine-HCT, amlodipine-captopril, amlodipine, and captopril. In terms of cost, antihypertensive drug sorted from the cheapest to the most expensive were captopril, captopril¬HCT, amlodipine, amlodipine-HCT and amlodipine-captopril. In terms of cost- effectiveness, antihypertensive drug sorted from the most effective to the least cost-effective therapy for systolic blood pressure were the captopril-HCT, amlodipine-HCT, captopril, amlodipine, and amlodipine-captopril, wherein the value of ICER captopril-HCT compared with captopril on systolic blood pressure was Rp 51,18 and the value of ICER captopril-HCT compared with amlodipine on systolic blood pressure was Rp -7525,51. While for Cost Minimization Analysis, the difference in cost between the brand amlodipine and generic amlodipine was Rp 58724,49.
