Summary: | Approximately 35% of women had experienced acute urinary tract infection (UTIs) during their lifetime. In America (USA), UTIs are responsible for over 7 million physician visits annually. Approximately 15% of all community-prescribed antibiotics in the USA are dispensed for UTI. Bacterial resistance became one of globally problem. In fact, in 2009, Indonesia was ranked 8th out of 27 countries with the burden of multi-drug resistance (MDR). The objective of this research is to evaluate the use of antibiotics, determine the pattern of antibiotics use and assess the accuracy of antibiotics usage on hospitalized UTIs patients in a private hospital in Bandung. This research was done retrospectively by collecting data from medical record hospitalized UTIs patients in periode 2011 and 2012 with the bumber of patients is 54 persons. This research showed that the most widely used antibiotics was a quinolone class of 47,5% and a third generation cephalosporins by 38,75%. Quinolone class of antibiotics which is the most widely used is ciprofloxacin 17,5%, while the third generation cephalosporins antibiotics which is the most widely used is ceftriaxone 23,75%. Antibiotics combination occur 16 times. 'There is potential duplication of antibiotics as much as 4 times. Potential drug interactions occur 32 times, 30 of them with a moderate level of significance interaction. The accuracy dose of antibiotics is 96,9% and antibiotics indication accuracy is 96,25%. Three patients with complicated UTIs was not received antibiotics theraphy. This study found a potential duplication antibiotics and the potential for significant drug interactions, whereas inappropriate due to antibiotics dosage and inappropriate due to antibiotics indications is quite a bit. |
