Between 2005 and 2017, Indonesia's aviation sector has tripled, from 30 million passengers to 89,3 million passengers. As one of the most popular destinations in Indonesia, Bali also has experienced growth in its domestic passenger arrival over the last few years. Even though COVID-19 affects Indonesia's aviation sector drastically because of the travel restriction, Jakarta-Denpasar is dominated by one particular airline. Thus, the author wants to acknowledge any factor that significantly influences passengers in choosing an airline for Jakarta-Denpasar route by using choice modelling and proposing recommendations for airlines and government or authorities. Flight attributes including airfare, flight schedule, ontime performance rate, number of transit, travel time, HEPA filter, and passengers' sociodemographic profile are analyzed in this research. From the 256 respondents, the author found that Citilink is the most chosen airline, followed by AirAsia, Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, and Lion Air. The significant attributes for all airlines are the number of transit and HEPA filter availability. Flight schedule is significantly influence the decision for Citilink and Garuda Indonesia. On-time performance rate is significant for AirAsia, Citilink, and Garuda Indonesia. Travel time is considered as significant attribute for AirAsia, Lion Air, Citilink, and Garuda Indonesia. However, airfare does not significantly influence the decision. Other than that, the older the passenger will prefer to choose Citilink rather than Batik Air. Meanwhile, the younger the passenger will prefer Batik Air compared to Citilink. Moreover, the higher the income, the passenger will prefer to choose Citilink rather than AirAsia or Lion Air. Lastly, passengers who worked as employees prefer to choose AirAsia and Lion Air for this route. Thus, the author suggested that the government or authorities apply strict rules regarding HEPA filter and tighten the vaccine certificate screening at the airport. Several recommendations for each airline on how to increase the market share are explained in this research. Keyword: Aviation, Choice Decision, Choice Modelling, Airline text |
