Description
Summary:In this research, the phenomena of water flow in an open channel with different cross-sectional geometries will be investigated. The equation of Saint-Venant is utilized as the model. On a staggered grid, the model will be numerically solved using the finite volume method. Prior to using the model to determine the general trend of the phenomenon of water flow in open channels, the model is validated using experimental data collected in the laboratory and compared with the simulation results from the HEC-RAS hydraulics modeling application to determine the model’s accuracy. This research examines rectangular, trapezoidal, and irregular cross-sectional forms of the channel. On the premise of the comparisons performed, it can be stated that the developed model simulates and represents the phenomena of water flow in an open channel with diverse cross-sectional forms of the channel pretty effectively. Moreover, if the downstream is closed, there is a linear connection between the upstream water flow velocity and the average water level at the conclusion of the experiment.
