Studies related to the development of derivatization and the formation of combination compounds to obtain compounds with better activity than the parent drug, including ciprofloxacin, have been well documented. In this research, the combination of ciprofloxacin and salicylic acid (CB-Sal) was formed at a molar ratio of 1:1 and 1:2 through solvent evaporation method. Hereafter, solid characterization was carried out to ensure the formation of combined compounds using a microscope, electrothermal, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), and Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PXRD). The data showed that the two compounds are most likely in the form of salts. Furthermore, the two salts were proven to increase antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, which were tested by determining the MIC value using the microdilution method and determining the MBC value. From the test results, it was found that there was an increase in the antibacterial activity of CB-Sal 1:1 and 1:2 in medium pH 6.8 and 7.4 by ?8-16 times against E. coli when compared to ciprofloxacin base. Against S. aureus, there was also a 2-fold increase in antibacterial activity of CB-Sal 1:1 in medium pH 6.8. In addition, based on the MBC/MIC ratio, CB-Sal salts were predicted to have a bactericidal activity profile. Thus, it is concluded that the formation of ciprofloxacin-salicylate salt can increase ciprofloxacin’s antibiotic activity which is beneficial for the further development of antibiotic formulas. text |

Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is widely used for various bacterial infections.
Studies related to the development of derivatization and the formation of combination compounds
to obtain compounds with better activity than the parent drug, including ciprofloxacin, have been
well documented. In this research, the combination of ciprofloxacin and salicylic acid (CB-Sal) was
formed at a molar ratio of 1:1 and 1:2 through solvent evaporation method. Hereafter, solid
characterization was carried out to ensure the formation of combined compounds using a
microscope, electrothermal, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning
Calorimetry (DSC), and Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PXRD). The data showed that the two compounds
are most likely in the form of salts. Furthermore, the two salts were proven to increase antibacterial
activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, which were tested by determining the
MIC value using the microdilution method and determining the MBC value. From the test results, it
was found that there was an increase in the antibacterial activity of CB-Sal 1:1 and 1:2 in medium
pH 6.8 and 7.4 by ?8-16 times against E. coli when compared to ciprofloxacin base. Against S.
aureus, there was also a 2-fold increase in antibacterial activity of CB-Sal 1:1 in medium pH 6.8. In
