Summary: | The rapid development of the city of Bandung has made the city an engine of growth. This has resulted in large investors who are synonymous with retail businesses increase in number. Therefore, there is a dispute for urban space between modern and traditional markets. The emergence of modern markets (malls, lifestyle centers, and supermarkets) has resulted in the elimination of traditional markets both in terms of location and buyer interest. Efforts that have been made such as relocation and revitalization have actually harmed traders. Other problems that arise from traditional markets are rampant illegal street vendors around the market, scattered garbage, inefficient land use, and criminal acts. The source of this problem can also be caused by the internal of traditional market itself. Poor market management also has a negative impact on the physical condition of the market. However, despite causing many problems, the existence of traditional markets is important to maintain because traditional markets can be a place where the local economy, social, and culture can develop, especially for the lower middle class. These problems are then integrated into one architectural response, namely the redesigning of traditional markets with the aim of improving the image of the city's traditional markets and optimizing land use. |
