INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/64971 Batam City is the city with the 3rd largest number of tourist visits in Indonesia after Jakarta and Bali. In addition to tourism potential, its location which is surrounded by the sea adds a lot of potential for marine and agricultural development. However, there is still a gap between food needs and food production in Batam City which causes the need to import food supply from other cities. The limited land that can be used as agricultural land and the lack of fish farming also contribute to the problem of food security in Batam City. The Barelang hinterland area is one of the tourist destinations that covers the intersection between fisheries and agriculture. The hinterland area has a lot of potential to be developed but the development of tourism, agriculture, and fisheries in the region still tends to be traditional and less productive. Therefore, the project to be designed is located on Nipah Island, Bulang District, Batam City. This location is in a series of Barelang tourism routes. The location selection is based on its location in an area with potential for tourism, plantations, and fisheries. Broadly speaking, this project aims to transform nature-only tourism into man-made tourism that is more productive and has high economic value for local residents. These goals are channeled through five missions, namely creating sustainable tourism in Batam City, creating a reliable food supply to meet the needs of the Batam community, and empowering people who work as farmers, fishermen, and traders to improve the economic conditions of the Barelang hinterland area, implementing technological advances in the design to support the efficiency and productivity of farmers and fishermen, increase awareness of the people of Batam on nutrition and food security. The project consists of a typology that accommodates the functions of tourism, food production, food processing, food distribution, and food waste treatment. Through a combination of these typologies, this project carries the slogan reimagining food tourism because it wants to bring a new color to tourism and culinary in Batam City. text
