Summary:Open public space is a spatial element that is shared and can accommodate various social activities for the community. The existence of open public space provides many benefits to the community in terms of social, health, and economic aspects. Public green open space in an urban area is very important. However, there is a decrease in the function of open public space facilities in urban areas nowadays. Alun-Alun Kota is a form of open public space. The area of Alun-Alun Kota Bekasi still has various problems in fulfilling its function as open public space. The facilities and physical condition of the Alun-Alun Kota Bekasi area are damaged and not maintained which can reduce social, aesthetic, and ecological values. Its location in the center of the city creates a high intensity of vehicles passing on the roads around the area. However, congestion often occurs due to the large number of illegal parking which reduces the capacity of the road. To solve this problem, a redesign is needed that focused on the existing conditions of the Alun-Alun Kota Bekasi area. The design method used in this study is a fragmental method with the concept of placemaking urban design. The placemaking concept is realized with good place elements which include access & linkage, comfort & image, uses & activity, and sociability
