In supporting the efforts to achieve this goal, each region must implement a good practice of port management. This aligns with the “maritime axis” policy that has been pioneered by the Government of Indonesia. The Indonesian Law No. 17/2008 regarding Navigation of the Sea is the legal basis of the construction, operation, development, and management of seaports in Indonesia. The newly built Patimban Port as an international seaport will have a positive impact on the Indonesian economy. There needs to be a thorough planning process to ensure that the vessels calling into the port is not exposed to the dangers of trapped or stranded in navigation channels due to sedimentation build-up. This study analyzes the effects of sedimentation to the facilities at Patimban Port, the aftermath of sedimentation build-up, and the maintenance of navigation channels. This study is carried out by doing literature study, on-site observation, and secondary data sources related to sedimentation in the area around Patimban Port. The sedimentation that occurs in Patimban Port, specifically in the entrance navigation channels has a volume of 186,693 m3 and 84,329 m3 in the pool ports. The rate of sedimentation build-up in the navigation channels is estimated to be 11.5 cm/year in the entrance navigation channels and at around 3.5 cm/year in the pool ports. The sediment that is deposited around Patimban Port is mostly comprised of clay, silt, and sand. The muddy sediment that is suspended in the water column disrupts the process of depth measurement which is done to identify which parts of the seabed is a safety threat for navigating vessels. The clay type of sediment is mostly contributed by the Cipunagara River, which transports around 2,060 tonnes/sq. km/year of clay sediments. Based on the occurring phenomena of sedimentation, it is advised that a navigation channel maintenance process is carried out at a thickness of 50 cm and is done every 4.3 years. text |

Seaport is one of the most important types of infrastructure that contributes greatly
to the Indonesian economy, as its function is to connect multiple islands with each
other, to ensure growth and economic development is equal within all parts of the
nation. In supporting the efforts to achieve this goal, each region must implement
a good practice of port management. This aligns with the “maritime axis” policy

17/2008 regarding Navigation of the Sea is the legal basis of the construction,
operation, development, and management of seaports in Indonesia. The newly built
Patimban Port as an international seaport will have a positive impact on the
Indonesian economy. There needs to be a thorough planning process to ensure that
the vessels calling into the port is not exposed to the dangers of trapped or stranded
in navigation channels due to sedimentation build-up. This study analyzes the
effects of sedimentation to the facilities at Patimban Port, the aftermath of
