Description
Summary:Blue carbon ecosystem which includes mangrove, saltmarsh, and seagrass is storing carbon four times higher than tropical forest. The Asia-Pacific is sandwiched between 2 major oceans, The Pacific and The Indian, which makes it vulnerable to climate change that threatens the blue carbon ecosystem sustainability. But this ecosystem is one of the most threatened ecosystems on the earth due to human activities and global warming. It is estimated that 0.15 - 1.02 Pg (billion ton) CO2 is released to the atmosphere each year due to blue carbon degradation. The development of blue carbon pressure index by integrating remote sensing data could identify changes that lead to disruption of the blue carbon sustainability. From the results of this study, it is found that the saltmarsh ecosystem has the biggest percentage of high pressure than the other 2 ecosystems because of climate change.
