Every year the catch of fishermen can change in each area, one of the factors is ocean currents. The currents have a huge impact on fish catches, one of which is affected by the Sulawesi sea coast, namely the Gentuma Fishery Port, Gorontalo Province. The average fisherman at the port uses using fixed fish aggregating device (FAD). At the Gentuma Fishing Port and its surroundings, there are many cases of FADs being lost or washed away by the current, where this current phenomenon is called knife flow by local residents, this phenomenon began to occur in 2020. FADs are lost or washed away because of the anchor rope that supports the FADs. settles at a location, breaks due to being passed by the knife current. This causes the economic disruption of the fishing community at the Gentuma Fishing Port, a decrease in fish catches in the sea both in quality and quantity. The price of one FAD is quite expensive, around 15 million rupiah to hundreds of millions of rupiah depending on the material and size. Therefore, the research was conducted to identify when and where the knife flow occurred so that we can avoid and prevent future losses. In the study of the distributed knife current phenomenon by determining the current speed threshold using the Block Maxima Series (BMS) and Peak Over Threshold (POT) methods, where the current velocity value which is higher than the threshold will be expressed as knife current. The data used are global flow data in 2011 as main flow data and global flow data in 2008-2010 as supporting flow data. The blade current velocity range with the distribution using the BMS method is 0.20 – 1.24 m/s while using the POT method the knife current speed range is 0.50 – 1.24 m/s. There are three areas that are frequently traversed by knife currents in 2011. The time of the knife current phenomenon in Sulawesi waters in 2011 often occurs in January and May. text
