SYNTHESIS OF NATURAL RAW MATERIALS AND 2-HALOALKANE COMPOUNDS AS PRECURSORS OF THE ORYCTES RHINOCEROS BEETLE (S)-ETHYL-4-METHYLOCTANOATE

Oryctes rhinoceros is one of the biggest pests on coconut and oil palm plantations in Southeast Asia. The most efective way to suppress pest populations is to use pheromones. The most efective way to suppress pest populations is to use pheromones. Pheromones can be obtained from the extraction of insect bodies but the amount is very small so synthetic pheromones are needed. In this research, the synthesis of citronellyl tosylate, citronellyl bromide, ethyl tosylate and 2-bromohexane, which are precursors of the pheromone compound Oryctes rhinoceros (S)-ethyl-4-methyloctanoate was carried out. Citronellol which was designed as a raw material in the synthesis of pheromone compounds (S)-ethyl-4-methyloctanoate was transformed into citronellyl tosylate through a tosylation reaction and citronellyl bromide through a tosylation reaction and citronellyl bromide through the Apple reaction to become a coupling partner with an ethyl group to produce an intermediate compound (S)-2,6-dimethyl-2-decene. 2-bromohexane was obtained through the bromination reaction of 1-hexene with 48% HBr (w/w) using tetrabutlyammonium bromide. In this study, the yield of citronellyl tosylate was 11,66%, the mass of the mixture reaction of citronellyl bromide was 1,9614 grams, the yield of ethyl tosylate was 4,3%, a mixture of 2-bromohexane with 1-bromohexane was regioselectively 2:1. text
