Description
Summary:The Midsommar Festival is an annual summer festival held in Scandinavia and has pagan teachings originating from the European continent. In this festival there is also a myth of belief that is closely related to the Scandinavian community regarding the Maypole ritual, as well as a figure who is a representation of the Goddess of Spring, namely the May Queen, so that this festival has cultural values that need to be introduced, especially to people outside Scandinavia. This study discusses the exploration of textile background design techniques with the visualization of the Midsommar Festival from Scandinavia in contemporary costumes, as a form of visual introduction to the Festival. The background design technique used focuses on embroidery techniques, beads embroidery, embroidery techniques, and fabric painting. Contemporary costumes were chosen because they are a medium of representation of the character and culture of a region. This study aims to produce a textile work in the form of a contemporary costume by elevating the visuals of the Midsommar Festival, so that a fashion work can be created that has cultural values from the festival.
