Description
Summary:An understanding of the planets will be beneficial to human discoveries and innovations. However, the development of planetary science in Indonesia is quite slow, so it is important to introduce planetary science to children from an early age. In addition to advancing planetary science in Indonesia, interest in planets can capture children's imaginations and make them understand phenomenon as well as basic ideas and methods of science and mathematics. Planets are quite abstract things for children aged 7-11 years so that visualization of the planets assisted by the right media will ease the process. Visualization of planets with media that can be easily observed and touched directly will be suitable for children aged 7-11 years who are in the stage of concrete operational cognitive development. This study aims to produce a visualization of planetary textures for children that focuses on combining the perception of the senses of sight and touch in order to maximize the absorption of information. The research was conducted by exploring textures using textile materials and referring to the visual surfaces and textures of the planets. The products produced are eight, namely eight sheets of textiles as a result of visualizing the texture of eight planets. All textile exploration results are then arranged according to the arrangement of each planet in the solar system. The results of all textile explorations that have been arranged are then used as media aid in visualizing the texture of the planets surface for children aged 7-11 years by combining the perception of the senses of sight and touch.
