STUDY ON THE INFLUENCE OF REGIONAL PHENOMENON ON THE OCEAN THERMAL ENERGY POWER POTENTIAL IN THE WATERS OF INDONESIA'S EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE (EEZ)

The research of this final project aims to study the influence of the phenomenon El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) on the thermal energy availability of Indonesia’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) waters based on monthly simulated temperature data for 50 years (dating f...

The reviewed area spanned from 6° N to 11° S and 95° E to 139° E. The Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) resources are estimated through the difference of temperatures between 20 m and 1000 m below sea level. The results show that the waters of Indonesia’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), with an area of 3,148,208.02 km2, have an OTEC power potential of 290.28 GW. The OTEC power potential during the El-Nino phenomenon decreases to 288.23 GW, while during the La-Nina phenomenon increases to 291.72 GW. The OTEC power potential during a positive IOD phenomenon decreases to 281.92 GW, while during a negative IOD phenomenon increases to 292.64 GW. The results also show that there was a decrease in OTEC power potential when the El Nino phenomenon is accompanied by a positive IOD phenomenon down to 282.68 GW. Meanwhile during a La Nina accompanied with a negative IOD phenomenon, the potential increased to 294.48 GW. text
