INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/65524 East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is classified as having the lowest electrification ratio in Indonesia at 58.64% in 2017. Research on renewable energy as a source of electricity, especially marine energy needs to be done considering the vast waters in the province. This study estimates the potential for electric power generated by tidal currents in the Pantar Strait (8,128oS-8,535oS and 124,193oE-124,567oE), NTT. The electric power is obtained from the current velocity of the two-dimensional hydrodynamic model using Delft3D with tidal forcing. The model results were analyzed for one month (1-29 October 2020). Electrical power estimation analysis is carried out by calculating the monthly average electric power and Sabella D10 turbine operating time obtained by calculating the percentage of current events above the cut-in speed value of 0.5 m/s and rated speed 4 m/s for one month and one day at spring and neap tide. The efficiency of the Sabella D10 turbine 0.45 qualifies the Betz limit (0.59). Based on the criteria of a cut-in speed of 0.5 m/s and a depth of 40-100 m, there are three potential locations of marine current power plants: Site 1 (Pantar-Pura Island), Site 2 (Ternate Island), and Site 3 (Nuhakepa Island). The monthly average electric power generated by the turbine are 618 kW (Site 1), 32 kW (Site 2), and 64 kW (Site 3). At the three sites, there are five potential stations with high electrical power density with the closest distance from the coastline (0.1-0.2 km), are Stations P1, P2, P3 (Site 1), T1 (Site 2),) and A1 (Site 3). Turbine operating time in a month and a day of spring and neap tide at Stations P1 (610 hours; 22 hours; 9 hours), P2 (609 hours; 21 hours; 11 hours), P3 (598 hours; 21 hours; 4 hours), T1 (307 hours; 11 hours; 2 hours), and A1 (362 hours; 20 hours; 0 hours). Meanwhile, the electricity generated by the turbine in a month and a day of spring and neap tide are: P1 (93.171 kW; 6.204 kW; 118 kW), P2 (73.276 kW; 5.054 kW; 68 kW), P3 (82.654 kW; 5.685 kW; 137 kW), T1 (7.009 kW; 2.235 kW; 18 kW), dan A1 (10.668 kW; 889 kW; 0 kW). The total technical electrical power on Stations P1, P2, P3, T1, and A1 of 266,778 kW able to supply the electricity needs of 31,2% of 13.792 families for a month. text
