Description
Summary:Safety in the aviation industry is a top priority and is always improving from time to time. The Flight Safety Foundation stated that 66% of the 76 accidents in the approach and landing phases were caused by an unstabilized approach. In minimizing accidents due to the unstable approach, each airline has a different Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). As a result, SOPs cannot be used as universal benchmarks in detecting unstabilized approaches. In reality, the unstable approach occurs due to the flight crew's inability to regulate the energy needed to fly in a stable state. Therefore, an energy management approach is used to detect the unstabilized approach. The analysis was carried out on 628 flight data with the same final destination airport and runway. Flight data comes from Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) data. The analysis shows that the results of the unstable approach detection with energy management methods are included in the SOP-based detection results. This shows that energy management can be a basic criterion in detecting an unstable approach.
