Summary: | Pandemic COVID-19 has significantly affected the labor sector, especially workers
affected by layoffs. Some of them have turned their backs on the development of the gig
economy phenomenon. One of them that is growing rapidly is motorcycle taxi drivers
through online platforms. The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed restrictions on
activities that affect people's mobility, so the number of motorcycle taxi passengers has
decreased drastically. The COVID-19 pandemic is a form of shock that threatens
livelihood assets for online motorcycle taxi drivers. This study aims to identify the
impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the asset value of online motorcycle taxi drivers
in the city of Bandung. The city of Bandung was chosen as the study location because
it is one of the largest metropolitan cities in West Java Province which has been heavily
affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the majority of its main work is in the service
sector, amounting to 76.6% in 2021, including online motorcycle taxi drivers. The
primary survey by distributing questionnaires with a convenience sampling of 200
respondents and offline interviews, as well as a secondary data survey was conducted
in this study. This study uses descriptive statistical analysis, inferential statistics, and
descriptive qualitative. Six types of livelihood asset capital are used in this study,
namely human capital, natural capital, financial capital, social capital, physical
capital, and psychological capital. The results of the analysis indicate that the COVID19 pandemic has had an impact on changes in the average value of the livelihood assets
of online motorcycle taxi drivers before and after the pandemic (before and after
vaccination). The value of livelihood assets decreased after the COVID-19 pandemic,
both before vaccination and after vaccination from high to medium category. Natural
capital and psychological capital are in the low category due to the COVID-19
pandemic. Strategies to increase livelihood assets that need to be carried out ar e
through delivery flexibility other than passengers, namely goods or food, financial
management again, driving job diversification to increase income, implementing
accelerated vaccination programs, providing counseling services, and providing
financial assistance in meeting daily needs. This study can be an input and basis for
stakeholders in making plans, efforts, and policies in overcoming problems that occur
in online motorcycle taxi drivers so that they can improve sustainable livelihoods for
their people.
