Summary: | Based on the 2020 Population Census (SP) data, as of September 2020, the number of Indonesians living on the island of Java is 151.6 million people. Rapid population growth and development activities in all fields can certainly cause an increase in the need and demand for land so it affects the decreasing availability of land in Java. Other driving factors such as natural disasters and topographic conditions. The research methodology is to identify changes in land cover based on land cover data and compose a matrix of patterns of land cover change at 6-year intervals. Then identify land cover changes based on elevation. Furthermore, a map of land cover changes was made, a map of the variation of the topographic distribution on the island of Java, and 3-dimensional visualization of land cover change. The data used in this study include 30-meter Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) image data, land cover data on Java Island in 2000, 2006, 2012, and 2018 and grid data of 30x30 seconds. The data is then processed using ArcMap 10.8, Microsoft Excel, and R studio software. Changes in land cover that occurred from 2000 to 2018 there was an area of land cover change that increased and decreased. Built-up land (Bl) experienced the highest increase at around 1,080,173,5209 ha and Wetland agriculture (Wa) experienced the highest decrease at around 770,944,2922 ha. After processing land cover data at 6-year intervals for the period 2000-2006, 2006-2012, and 2012-2018, there is a pattern of land cover change that increases and decreases from each period. The distribution variation in Java Island is very diverse where the highest altitude is mostly located in the central part of Java Island. Changes in land cover occur at certain altitude classes. There is a height threshold value for a certain land cover change class assuming the area of the change is very small and close to zero.
