Summary: | Small contractors play an important role in the development of the national
construction sector because they dominate the number of existing contractors. With
the characteristics of small contractors, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant
impact. The Covid-19 pandemic has been going on for two years, so it is important
for all parties to be able to take lessons if a similar condition reoccurs. For this
reason, a study is needed to obtain an overview of the impact of the Covid-19
pandemic on small contractors and their practices to deal with the Covid-19
pandemic situation in terms of several components of marketing, human resources,
supply chain, operations and finance. In addition, it is also necessary to describe
how the practices of the parties (clients/owners and suppliers) in carrying out their
respective functions in order to deal with the negative impacts of the Covid-19
pandemic. By using descriptive analysis, the results show that the main impact felt
by small contractors is that material prices fluctuate, difficult to carry out marketing
with activities restiction, construction market is reduced, difficult to get additional
capital, project cash flows disruption, project profits decreased, projects could
temporarily suspend if workers affected by Covid-19, and difficult to control
workers who ignore the Covid-19 protocol. Based on the survey results, the
practices made by contractors must pay more attention to the impact of marketing
and seek additional capital to maintain their business, clients/owners need to help
contractors more to overcome financial problems due to the Covid-19 pandemic
and keep the project from becoming a new cluster for the spread of Covid-19, and
suppliers need to establish business cooperation with contractors so that there are
no problems in terms of project resources. To deal with the future construction
industry, all parties (contractors, clients/owners and suppliers) must be able to take
advantage of technological developments, both information technology and
construction technology to have resilience to similar conditions such as the Covid-
19 pandemic |
