In this undergraduate thesis, the performance of particle-based fluid simulation of LSMPS – VPM using Brinkman penalization that is currently developed is enhanced by implementing a new particle distribution technique. An observation of the current multiresolution technique shows the LSMPS spatial differential operator makes an error jump around the multiresolution transition region. The new weighting schemes resolve this problem in the transition region. The multiresolution particle distribution has been tested on a flow past a circular cylinder with Re = 550. A new multiresolution technique of elliptical particles is also implemented in this research work. This method was tested on a laminar boundary layer on a flat plate. Surprisingly, this method results in significant computation cost reduction with computation time saved up to 97% and even more. This cost reduction is followed by an error increase which is quite linear to the elliptical ratio. The elliptical particle in this research work is still limited in implementing flow cases with one dominant direction, such as the laminar boundary layer. text |

The demand for high-performance fluid simulation in a complex object, interaction
with many solid objects, and simulation in a large domain become a future
target in particle-based CFD. In this undergraduate thesis, the performance of
particle-based fluid simulation of LSMPS – VPM using Brinkman penalization
that is currently developed is enhanced by implementing a new particle distribution
technique. An observation of the current multiresolution technique shows the
LSMPS spatial differential operator makes an error jump around the multiresolution
transition region. The new weighting schemes resolve this problem in the
transition region. The multiresolution particle distribution has been tested on a
flow past a circular cylinder with Re = 550. A new multiresolution technique of
elliptical particles is also implemented in this research work. This method was
tested on a laminar boundary layer on a flat plate. Surprisingly, this method
results in significant computation cost reduction with computation time saved up
to 97% and even more. This cost reduction is followed by an error increase which
is quite linear to the elliptical ratio. The elliptical particle in this research work is
still limited in implementing flow cases with one dominant direction, such as the
laminar boundary layer.
