Summary: | The catalytic cracking process is one of the processes that can be carried out to produce biofuels. HZSM-5 catalyst is a commonly used catalyst to produce biofuels. Zeolites have the advantage of having thermal stability, selectivity, and also a highly ordered structure. During the process of making the HZSM-5 catalyst, it is undeniable that contamination of this catalyst can occur, one of which is contamination with Fe metal. The raw materials used to produce this gasoline are cooking oil and IVO (Industrial Vegetable Oil).
This research will also conduct experiments on two types of catalysts contaminated with Fe metal and minimal Fe metal contamination to determine the effect on product distribution and also on the age of the catalyst. This research will be carried out under reaction conditions at a temperature of 500 oC, atmospheric pressure, WHSV 2.5/hour, the mass of catalyst used for each production is 2.5 g and the reaction is carried out for 10 hours. It was found that the characteristics of the catalyst in contact with Fe metal and not using the XRF tool resulted in characteristics that were in accordance with the crystallization of zeolite and the XRD tool showed a peak indicating the presence of Fe2O3 on the catalyst in contact with Fe. By using cooking oil feed, it was found that the Fe catalyst had better performance with gasoline recovery at the 1st, 4th, and 10th hours, respectively, of 92.5%; 91%; and 83%. Carbon deposits on the Fe catalyst is 5,8x10-3 gr/gr feed. A good feed used for Fe catalyst is cooking oil with a percentage of gasoline at the 1st, 4th, 8th hours in a row of 92.5%; 91%; dan 85.1%. A good feed used for ceramic catalysts is IVO with a percentage of gasoline at the 1st, 4th, and 8th hours in a row of 87.4%; 93.2%; and 90.1%.
