The larvae of this insect are widely studied and used as animal feed and organic waste processing agents. Livestock waste as one of the organic wastes is mostly produced from slaughterhouses and traditional markets, if the waste is not managed properly it can cause pollution and health problems for humans. Research has been carried out to analyze the performance of BSF larvae in various livestock wastes based on the growth rate, larval life period, survival, and consumption ability. The research method used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of five treatments (control, fish waste, chicken waste, fish waste + cattle blood waste, and chicken waste + cattle blood waste) with five repetitions. Thirty H. illucens larvae aged 6 days were given various feed treatments with a daily feed rate of 100 mg/larvae/day and growth (larval life period, growth rate, and larval survival rate) was observed every day. To observe consumption ability, the prepupae of H. illucens were weighed for Waste reduction index (WRI), Approximate Digestibility (AD), Efficiency of Conversion of Digested Food (ECD), Efficiency of Conversion of Ingested Food (ECI), Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and mass balance analysis. The results showed that the longest larval life period (24 ± 0.00 days) was obtained in the treatment of fish waste and fish waste + cattle blood waste, the highest growth rate was obtained in the treatment of chicken waste (3.04 ± 0.69), and the highest percentage of larval survival rate was obtained from the treatment of fish waste + cattle blood waste (94.67 ± 3.58%). The highest values of WRI (3.451 ± 0.03) and AD (79.38 ± 0.62%) were obtained in the treatment of chicken waste + cattle blood waste, the highest ECD (7.77 ± 1.67%) and ECI (1.66 ± 0.41%) values were obtained in the control treatment, while the highest FCR value (37.64 ± 5.82) was obtained in the treatment of fish waste + cattle blood waste. For the value of the proportion of feed conversion to biomass, the control treatment showed the highest yield of 1.66%. It can be concluded that black soldier fly larvae tend to have varied growth performance on various livestock waste substrates. text |
