Therefore, research was conducted on several methods of preservation and concentration of preservatives that are easy to apply, as well as the effect of bamboo's position during preservation. Bamboo culms were treated with borax-boric solution (2:1) using cold-soaking for 7 days, hot and cold-soaking at 90? for 3 hours, boiling at 90? for 3 hours, and vacuum pressure at 7.4 kg/cm2 for 60 minutes. The concentrations of borax-boric preservative solution used were 3%, 5%, and 8%.The retention test carried out by determining the difference culms weight divided by the volume. The penetration test was determined using an area and depth basis. The results showed that increasing the concentration of borax-boric solution (2:1) used will increase retention, with a value of 5.06-16.57 kg/m3, and penetration with a value of 60.17-86.11%. Treated bamboo with cold-soaking, boiling, hot and cold-soaking, and vacuum pressure has retention of 4.14 kg/m3, 6.27 kg/m3, 14.54 kg/m3, and 17.81 kg/m3, while the penetration was 44.00%, 46.72%, 80.03%, and 100.00%, respectively. The distribution of preservatives at the cross-section showed that the inner culm had more concentration than the outer for all methods, except cold-soaking treatment had more concentrated in the circumference. Based on Indian Standard 9096:2006, bamboo culms treatment using hot and cold-soaking, boiling, and vacuum pressure complied as a closed- construction material, while cold-soaking only met the standard as a jamb. Based on ABNT NBR 6232:2013, the treated bamboo culms with boiling and vacuum pressure methods classified as class 4 (>75%), while both soaking methods classified as class 2 (26-50%). text |
