Description
Summary:The increasing number of food needs that continue to increase is one of the things that pushes to increase agricultural production, but there are problems with limited land. Polyculture system with corn, beans, and pumpkins or commonly known as the “Three Sisters” is one system that can be used to create positive interactions that can help the growth and development of each plant. This system is also applied to urban farming because its cultivation does not require a large area of land and is flexible in its placement with various production results. Therefore, research was conducted on the effect of growing space on productivity and recommendations for optimal growing space for maize (Zea mays) grown with the three sisters cultivation system and recommendations for the most optimal growing space for three sisters cultivation. The study was conducted in a completely randomized design consisting of 3 treatments of growing room size with growbags and 6 repetitions. From the results of this study, it was found that the highest corn productivity was in the largest growing space, namely treatment C (grow bag 200 L) which had a weight of 318.40 kg/cob and without husks of 246.42 grams/cob, but not significantly different from treatment B (grow bag 100 L) which has a weight of 316.20 kg/cob and without pods of 240.63 kg/cob. Based on the results of this study, the growing space significantly affected the length (cm), diameter (cm), and weight (grams) of corn (Zea mays) grown with the three sisters cultivation system. The recommendation for growing space, for planting in containers, which is optimal for maize (Zea mays) is in treatment B (grow bag 100 L).
