Summary: | The high rate of urbanization, increasing population growth, and changes in water
consumption patterns can threaten the sustainability of an area and trigger the
emergence of water sensitive areas. Access to water and sanitation of Manado City
is still low and the high incidence of floods and landslides makes Manado City as
a water sensitive area. It is necessary strategy to increase access to water and
sanitation. This study aims to analyze the existing conditions of water and
sanitation management as well as the social values of the community in order to
obtain a sanitation risk index value and priorities for increasing access to water
and sanitation as the basis for developing strategies. This study reviews three water
sensitive areas in Manado City, namely the Singkil Satu, Wawonasa, and
Titiwungen Utara. The EHRA method is used to analyze the existing conditions and
obtain the IRS value, the AHP method is used to determine priorities, and the SWOT
analysis is used to develop strategies. As many as 76.33% of the community used
refilled water for drinking water, 37.67% of the community used portable water for
bathing and washing, 73% of the community used latrine to collect feces.
Meanwhile, bathing and washing wastewater is directly discharged into the
drainage channel. As many as 91% of the community managed solid waste by
collecting and transporting it to the TPA. The IRS value for the Singkil Satu is 258
(less risk), the Wawonasa is 347 (very high risk), and the Titiwungen Utara is 293
(moderate risk). The priority weight of drinking water supply is 0.295,
environmental drainage is 0.277, solid waste management is 0.276, and domestic
wastewater management is 0.153. The strategy for increasing access to water and
sanitation are enforcing regulations, establishing a special supervisory agency,
building facilities and infrastructure, and conducting socialization to the
community. |
