Description
Summary:Kecapi is one of the traditional musical culture which is included in the traditional musical instruments of West Java. With the rapid flow of globalization and the vast spreading of information about modern music, it caused a shift and a decrease of public interest and knowledge regarding this traditional musical instrument. One of the problems related to culture and tradition is that they can easily be extinct and forgotten as time goes by if they are not preserved or developed. The shift of culture related to traditional musical instruments has become a problem because culture is one of the nation's valuable assets. Problems related to the decrease of interest and knowledge that will have an impact on the loss of culture are the focus of this research. By transforming the tradition related to the kecapi, it is hoped that this instrument can be more adaptable to the current times. The development of designs related to the preservation of tradition is also carried out using the ATUMICS method which is used to map and combine both the elements of tradition and elements of modernity, so the designs developed can adapt to interests, people's lifestyle, socio-cultural conditions and the current development of science and technology. The development of this traditional musical instrument is also expected to help traditional kecapi craftsmen to survive and make this traditional instrument thrive, today and in the future
