Summary: | Traveling alone or solo traveling has become a trend for women and has made a big contribution to market growth in recent years. This phenomenon has implications for the emerging needs for tourist destinations that are equipped with regulations, facilities, and infrastructure to support their security and safety. One of the areas in Indonesia that have the potential to become one of those destinations is the Badung Regency which has various types of tourism, such as nature tourism, cultural tourism, religious tourism, culinary tourism, sports tourism, and artificial tourism.
This study aims to identify the characteristics of female solo travelers who visit Badung Regency and study the implementation and provision of facilities related to security and safety through certain variables, indicators, and parameters sourced from various literature review references to identify preferences for the level of importance and assessment of implementation and provision of security and safety facilities for female solo travelers. The questionnaires were distributed randomly to 108 female tourists who had traveled independently to Badung Regency. Twelve parameters became the assessment criteria and a deviation analysis was carried out through gap analysis. To support, interviews were conducted with tourist destination managers as policymakers, implementers, and providers of facilities related to security and safety.
The identification results regarding the characteristics of female solo travelers show that female solo travelers chose Badung Regency because of the variety of tourism options that can be done, and chose nature tourism as the main destination. On their journeys, female solo travelers also tended to meet at-risk groups and became targets of criminal activity. Based on the deviation analysis, the results of the study on the implementation and provision of security and safety facilities for female travelers, Badung Regency cannot yet be categorized as a tourist destination that is friendly to female solo travelers because they have not reached the twelve parameters tested.
Recommendations for the development of implementation and security and safety facilities for female solo travelers include increasing the number of security personnel, increasing public facilities such as street lighting, CCTV, information boards, and pedestrian paths, as well as providing facilities in the event of an emergency such as call centers, applications, and journalist complaint post.
