Indonesia produces tofu, tempeh, and processed soybeans spread in various regions. This industry produces waste in the form of liquid and solid waste. In Japan, tofu pulp is used as a processed food called okara. In Indonesia, tofu pulp is used in processed foods such as tofu dregs crackers, oncom, and animal feed. Liquid waste (whey) is used as sweet vinegar, cattle fattening drink, fertilizer, and nata de soya. Responding to this, researchers are interested in developing functional products, namely products lighting. In the production process of nata de soya, researchers partnered with nata de soya artisans in Bantul, Yogyakarta. Based on the experiment results and exploration of nata de soya material, it was found that nata de soya material can have elasticity and characteristics that resemble leather material and can be referred to as Soya leather. From the exploration results, an opportunity was found to overhaul lighting products with the theme of spirituality and raise the concept of Specific Javanese roof culture on the type of Tajug roof that has a deep spiritual meaning. This research is expected to expand the functionality and usefulness of nata de soya materials.
