Solid oral dosage form, especially tablet, was the most produced and consumed dosage form. The raw material that will be used should have good properties to ease the process of tablet production and to improve the quality of the end product. Crystal habit and size modification was one of the techniques that could be used to improve the properties of raw material. Therefore, the purpose of this literature review was to classify and review the influence of crystal habit and size on aspects related to tablet production and quality. In this literature review, 44 research journals about crystal habit and size modification of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) were being reviewed. Those researches showed that modification to crystal habit and size could influence some aspects related to tablet production and quality. Crystal habit and size affected crystallinity loss on milling, flowability, compressibility, compactibility, tabletability, material behaviour during compression, crystal cleavage mechanism, and punch sticking on aspects related to tablet production. Furthermore, crystal habit and size affected wettability, dissolution, and stability of the API on aspects related to tablet quality.
