Such concerns have pushed the adoption of more environmentally-friendly forms of transportation, with battery electric vehicles being favored. Electric vehicles provide numerous benefits: the powertrain creates no direct carbon emissions, no noise, the availability of an instant torque, a more efficient energy conversion, a lower total cost of ownership, as well as being a source of energy with its battery pack. Ragunan Zoo, one of the largest zoos in Southeast Asia, uses nearly 100 vehicles in its fleet to serve various operational needs such as: animal food delivery, enclosure maintenance, construction, staff transportation, etc. The diverse activities of the staff is optimal for a modular approach, with a vehicle being able to quickly change its functions and capacity to suit each activity’s needs. While the adoption of electric vehicles has been quick in similar cases, there is a lack of vehicle design that accommodates the diverse and emerging needs of Ragunan Zoo, therefore a design for a new vehicle with an electric powertrain and modular design is needed. The vehicle explores the potential and benefits of electric vehicles in aiding the activities of staff, as well as utilizing a modular approach to offset the drawbacks of electric vehicles text |

The growing environmental impact from the use of internal combustion engine
vehicles has been a growing global concern, notably with air and noise pollution.
Such concerns have pushed the adoption of more environmentally-friendly forms
of transportation, with battery electric vehicles being favored. Electric vehicles
provide numerous benefits: the powertrain creates no direct carbon emissions, no
noise, the availability of an instant torque, a more efficient energy conversion, a
lower total cost of ownership, as well as being a source of energy with its battery
pack. Ragunan Zoo, one of the largest zoos in Southeast Asia, uses nearly 100
vehicles in its fleet to serve various operational needs such as: animal food
delivery, enclosure maintenance, construction, staff transportation, etc. The
diverse activities of the staff is optimal for a modular approach, with a vehicle
being able to quickly change its functions and capacity to suit each activity’s
needs. While the adoption of electric vehicles has been quick in similar cases,
there is a lack of vehicle design that accommodates the diverse and emerging
needs of Ragunan Zoo, therefore a design for a new vehicle with an electric
powertrain and modular design is needed. The vehicle explores the potential and
