With this high amount of waste, effort need to made to overcome it, with pyrolysis technology that can convert sawn waste into liquid smoke. Liquid smoke is reported to increase plant resistance to pests and diseases. This research examines the potential of liquid smoke from the conversion of wood saw waste as a fungicide to control coffee rust disease caused by Hemileia vastatrix. The test parameters observed were; analysis of the chemical and physical characteristics of liquid smoke, the percent incidence of disease, and the germination inhibition level (THP) of uredospores of coffee leaf disease. In this experiment, testing the effectiveness of pine wood, surian wood, and sengon wood sawmill waste liquid smoke with a concentration of 0.25%; 0.5% and 0.75%. From the result of the characterization of the chemical properties of liquid smoke, the pH tested range from 1,69 - 3,08, the percentage of acetic acid ranged from 9,48% - 10,90%, and the total amount of phenol ranged from 4423,94 - 7,248,01 mg GAE/100 g. From the GCMS analysis, antifungal compounds contained in liquid smoke include acetic acid, carboxylic acid, alcohol & ether, and phenols. Liquid smoke has a reddish brown color which is caused by carbonyl compounds, a very strong aroma due to the presence of phenolic compounds, and the sediment that is tar compound. Based on the results of research, the higher the concentration of liquid smoke the lower the incidence of coffee rust diseases and the higher the GIR value (%). The types of liquid smoke that are maximal to minimal in sequent in inhibiting the disease are liquid smoke from pine wood, surian wood, and sengon wood. text |
