Well integrity is the application of technical, operational, and organizational solutions to reduce the risk of uncontrolled release of formation fluids either into or out of the wellbore throughout the life cycle of a well (OLF and TBL, 2013). Such problems are more likely to occur in wells built to oil and gas standards. This will be exacerbated by the extreme geothermal environment. Since acquiring the X geothermal field, one of Indonesia’s longest-operated geothermal fields, PT X has faced difficulties as the operator. Casing issues have forced the abandonment of about half of the production wells. In order to increase production, the operator intends to reactivate abandoned wells. An initial study was conducted to assess the technical feasibility of reactivating wells at X field. The development of the well assessment methodology comprised casing design, historical data analysis, well problem identification, and investigation of well integrity. The study focused on the identification and characterization of two abandoned wells, XX9 and XX28, as well as current casing conditions, limitations, and challenges in performing a realistic, measurable, economical, and technically feasible well intervention and workover. The results of this study will be used to develop casing designs for future wells (Marbun et al, 2019). text |

Abstract
Maintaining the production of mature geothermal wells is difficult due to well integrity issues. |
