Summary: | Dystopia is a term that describes a condition where the world is not ideal, driven
by factors such as social, environmental, and political, and one of the topics that
are often encountered in the scope of literary and artistic works such as films,
animation, comics, paintings, and fashion products. The term dystopia underlies
this study to aim the potential of dystopian concept to be raised in textile
exploration and women's clothing, along with the environmental conditions with
problems such as overpopulation as the root cause of social inequality,
exploitation of natural resources, environmental damage, and global warming.
The description of the concept dystopia that is attached to the current conditions
is poured into textile exploration using a combination of surface design
techniques such as: punch needling, slashing/distressing, ruffle, dyeing, and
embellishment. This research uses literature-based exploration and survey data
which is then implemented in the design of women's clothing as the final product.
The results of this study and survey data shows that Overpopulation Dystopia is
most relevant to conditions in Indonesia, resulting textile explorations that has the
impression or image of being messy, non-uniform, stuffy, and also hot/scorching. |
