Description
Summary:Rational use of medicine is the use of drugs according to patient needs, for the right period of time at the lowest price. In Indonesia, the number of puskesmas that apply rational use of medicine has only reached 47.08%. In addition, the number of self-medication in West Java reached 88.28%. In a study reported there are 44,000-98,000 patients die each year due to medication errors. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design conducted online with a valid and reliable questionnaire instrument. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge and understanding of students about rational use of medicine and awareness of medication safety, as well as to determine the effect of such understanding and knowledge on the safety of drug use. The questionnaire consists of 4 parts, namely demographic data, understanding and knowledge of rational use of medicine, awareness of medication safety. The research sample is students in the Greater Bandung area who meet the inclusion criteria. Sampling using purposive sampling method. Questionnaires were distributed from March to April 2022. Respondents who met the inclusion criteria were 372 respondents from 384 respondents. The results showed that 45% of students had good knowledge, 80% had good understanding, and 14% had good awareness. The results of the analysis showed that there was a weak and unidirectional significant relationship (p=0.000, r=0.292) between knowledge and understanding of rational use of medicine. Meanwhile, the results of the analysis of the effect of understanding rational use of medicine on awareness of medication safety had a significant relationship (p=0.000) with a weak and unidirectional correlation (r=0.345). It can be concluded that the value of knowledge and understanding of rational use of medicine is quite good, while awareness of medication safety is quite adequate. In addition, knowledge and understanding have a significant and influential relationship with awareness of medication safety.
