However, in recent years sugarcane commodities have continued to decline. The downward trend that occurs is indicated by the decline in productivity and the closure of the Sindanglaut PG operation after five years previously the Karangsuwung PG closing. On the other hand, the development of the East Cirebon area continues to occur, which is marked by sugarcane farming lands that have turned into residential areas. The downward trend in sugarcane and changes in sugarcane farming land as the main asset are challenges for sugarcane farmers. Therefore, this study aims to determine the livelihood strategies of sugarcane farmers in dealing with this situation. This study uses the framework of the concept of sustainable livelihoods, so that to find out the livelihood strategies, it is also analyzed about the livelihood assets owned by the farmers. This study uses quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods based on questionnaire data, interviews, and observations. The results of this study indicate that each category of farmers carries out different livelihood strategies according to the ownership of assets as capital. In the group of farmers, land owners and land tenants, they carry out a diversified livelihood strategy, while for smallholders, in addition to using a diversification strategy, they also migrate at certain times. text |
