VEGETATION STRUCTURE OF TREE COMMUNITY IN PERMANENT PLOT OF MONTANA FOREST IN MOUNT PAPANDAYAN NATURE RESERVE, GARUT, WEST JAVA AFTER 10 YEARS OF RE-MEASUREMENT

Information related to forest structure and dynamics is needed to help formulate forest conservation strategies. Information about the dynamics of a vegetation community at a certain temporal scale can be obtained through permanent plot monitoring. In 2011 a permanent plot of one hectare was buil...

Information about the dynamics of a vegetation community at a certain temporal scale can be obtained through permanent plot monitoring. In 2011 a permanent plot of one hectare was built in the forest in the Mount Papandayan Nature Reserve, Garut Regency, West Java. This study aimed to examine changes in the vegetation structure and floristic composition of the forest on the permanent plot within ten years after the first measurement. The permanent plot is located at an altitude of 2.262 masl with the type of vegetation in the form of natural mixed forest. In this study, a census and re-measurement of the Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) were carried out on individual trees with a minimum DBH of 5 cm during January to April 2022 (in six trips). The measurement results showed that there were 1920 individual trees belonging to 32 species and 18 families with Distylium stellare found as the tree with the highest important value index (58.28%). Compared to the conditions in 2011, there was an increase in the number of individual trees by 5.9%, an increase in the total basal area by 8.8% and an increase in the total biomass by 7.1%. In contrast to the structural aspect, the floristic aspect of the forest did not change significantly with the same number of tree species, the Shannon-Wiener Diversity index, dominance, and tended not to change. From this research, it can be concluded that in the span of 10 years, the mixed forest vegetation structure in the permanent plots did not change significantly text
