Description
Summary:Casing is one of the well barrier elements that is very important for the integrity of geothermal well; casing consists of two main aspects, namely the casing setting depth and design. From the time the casing is installed in the well until the last phase of the well, commonly known as plug and abandonment, all internal and external loads that the casing will encounter must be accurately calculated. The casing must also be able to survive the geothermal environment, which includes under-saturated pressure, high temperatures, strong rock, and extensively fractured rock formations. Therefore, in order to achieve a high level of well integrity and be capable of working from drilling to completion, production, maintenance (well intervention and workover), until converted into an injection well and vice versa, and plug and abandon (P&A), casing specifications must be determined with technical and economic considerations (Marbun, et al., 2020). This thesis examined the production well X in X Field, Indonesia, which features a water-dominated geothermal system with temperatures reaching 330 °C and pressures reaching 19.4 MPa. The casing failure was discovered after the well had been drilled and completed. This research entails analyzing and recalculating of the load of this well during the drilling, completion, production, and maintenance phases in order to improve the casing design and setting depth method. According to the the study findings, casing failure occurred in this well. Furthermore, the Philippine method was used in this study, which was later improved after being used for re-calculation of the casing setting depth and design evaluation method (Marbun, et al., 2020).
