INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/66632 ABSTRACT DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH POWER AMPLIFIER SYSTEM DESIGN AT S-BAND FREQUENCY By Nuh Theofilus Dwi Putra Hardjowono NIM: 18118032 (Telecommunication Engineering Program) High power amplifier (HPA) is one of the important components in the transmitter telecommunications system. HPA is used to increase the output signal power of transmitter so that it can reach far areas. Currently, Indonesia is developing its own telecommunications system. One of the frequency bands used by various types of telecommunications systems is the S-band frequency. Therefore, a HPA was developed that works on the S-band frequency, which is at a frequency of 2.9–3.5 GHz. In this project, HPA was developed using the GaN MMIC transistor and implemented the balanced amplifier configuration. Some quadrature coupler and bias-T are designed and implemented as part of HPA. In addition, there are other HPA sections designed to support the performance of HPA. The realized HPA has a small signal gain with a typical value of 15 dB at its operating frequency. In the large signal measurement, the HPA output power at the point P1dB is 1.324 dBm. The measured drain efficiency and PAE are 16,237% and 14,993%, respectively. The measurement of large signal is limited due to the inability of signal generator and driver amplifier to produce input power reaching the saturation region of the amplifier device theoretically. Keywords: high power amplifier, balanced amplifier configuration, bias-T, quadrature coupler, return loss, gain. text
