Battery components are essential in the development of electric vehicle technology. In its application, lithium battery packs are arranged in series and parallel to form a single battery system in electric vehicles. However, the parallel series circuit can cause problems in the form of an imbalance of charge on each battery cell. Therefore, the development of a battery balancing system needs to be carried out continuously in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness for industrial applications. The cell balancing system in this final project is a development of a research on modularized cell balancing system based on multi-winding transformer (MWT) and switched capacitors. Switched capacitor will be replaced with a single inductor that acts as a charge balancer between modules. This system is proposed as a solution to the problem with switched capacitor where the balancing current is limited and difficult to control which will affect the speed of balancing. In this study, a prototype was made to see the performance of the proposed cell balancing system based on MWT and single inductor when compared to the cell balancing system based on MWT and switched capacitor. Based on the experiment, it was found that the proposed cell balancing system based on MWT and single inductor has a faster balancing speed (700 s) than the cell balancing system based on MWT and switched capacitor (4000 s) to achieve a final zero voltage gap (ZVG) of 0,05 volt. Despite that, the proposed cell balancing system based on MWT and single inductor has a lower efficiency (86,7%) than the cell balancing system based on MWT and switched capacitor (95,64%). text
