Summary: | In an oil & gas company, pipelines are important. The distribution of product (liquid or gas) & sea
water are piped to all facilities even several kilometers away. Leaking of fluid in the pipe, tube, pressure
vessel, heat exchanger, & storage tank can cause explosion, environmental pollution, and equipment failure.
Therefore, these equipment are expensive assets that require the necessary maintenance to ensure
proper function. To protect these assets, equipment inspection is essential to prevent failures which may
have significant consequences for the natural and human environment. Due to increasingly stringent oil and gas equipment regulations, operators are implementing integrity programs, which ensure leaks and failures do not occur. An integrity program that combines structural condition assessments with regular verification of containment surveys reduces the risk of failure while extending the useful life of assets.
Equipment breakdown at the refinery is quite common, in this case are pipe leak, based on the data
taken, the average pipe leak occurs more than 2 times per month. Therefore, to prevent losses, incidents,
and environmental pollution, it is necessary to change the maintenance strategy. The selection of a
equipment monitoring system must consider quality, cost, duration, and the possibility of error. Ensuring
proper inspection programs, predicting equipment life, ensuring equipment reliability, are some of
the responsibilities of the SEE department. An error in determining the inspection method or an
error in predicting the age of the equipment will have an impact on the reliability of the equipment.
In this scientific work, the author will use the SMART method. This method provides
simplicity and can be easily used in various fields, and is easy to understand.
