Among the shifts that occurred was the concept of learning that began from teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning. The concept of student-centered learning that has developed in the education sector has led to a greater focus on the role of students as the main actors of education. The consequence of the student-centered learning concept is an expansion in the definition of the education space and the emphasis on educational approaches through informal learning. Changes in the concept of educational space require architects to formulate non-conventional educational spaces that can effectively support informal learning activities for students. This thesis is an attempt to respond to this challenge by using the theory of spatial configuration which is complemented by various theories related to informal learning. The thesis uses a qualitative approach through literature studies and precedent studies, and uses a quantitative approach through spatial configuration simulation using Space Syntax. The results of the thesis formulate eight design principles in designing informal learning spaces, namely; interaction, open atmosphere, flexibility of space, diversity of privacy, attractiveness, natural elements, open plan, and hub space. For the realization of the research results, the thesis uses the student hall building on the ITB Jatinangor campus as the object of the design. This study is the beginning of research on building design through spatial configuration theory so that research in this area can be further developed so that it becomes a more complete idea to be applied effectively. text
