Especially during exponential phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in which health recovery process no longer occurs solely in the medical settings, but also in non-medical settings; it is crucial to understand how health recovery process from the COVID-19 virus could proceed more optimally in an environment with certain factors such as the therapeutic environment and restorative environment. Thus, this study sought to determine how the factor of the environment affects therapeutic and restorative potentials perceived by COVID-19 patients. The method used is Mix-method Analysis with a Convergent-Parallel Approach in which qualitative and quantitative data are collected and analyzed in the same time frame. An online-based cross sectional survey was carried out in March 2022 under the qualification of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases with a total of 327 participants. The results of the analysis then establish 5 theoretical models that describe how the relationship between the important factors forming the therapeutic and restorative environment. The findings of this study indicate the tendency of each design criteria based on three types of quarantine facilities and the level of symptoms including: 1) Residential House (Mild Symptoms and No Symptoms); 2) Special Facilities (Moderate Symptoms) and 3) Hospitals (Severe Symptoms). The results of the analysis have also revealed design factors, criteria, and concepts of the therapeutic and restorative environment that are new and still relevant, as well as the correlational relationship between the dominant criterias. Factors that are still relevant include: 1) Personal Control; 2) Social Support; 3) Natural Nuance; 4) Distraction; 5) Environmental Stressors and 6) Stimulate Feelings. On the other hand, two new factors emerged: 1) Adequate Facilities and Infrastructure and 2) Location and Accessibility as well as several design criterias that complementing the relevant factors such as Sense of Ownership and Flexibility on the Personal Control factor, Sources of Support on the Social Support factor, and Supporting Mental Health and Non-Intimidating on the Stimulate Feelings factor. Based on the relevance and novelty, it can be concluded that a therapeutic and restorative environment that is suitable for COVID-19 patients is a positive environment that always provides suggestions for physical, psychological, and social health and is physically and visually attractive through personal control of the surroundings quarantine area which consists of 8 factors, 30 criteria, and 114 design concepts. text |
