Metro Kapsul is a solution to traffic congestion by providing mass rapid
transport. It is developed by PT TreKKa, a local industry. The vehicle or train is
autonomous and moves on a concrete track. The electric train or capsule travels
following the guide-wheel as it traces the concrete guide. Therefore, the main
steering mechanism is the guide wheel. To synchronize the movement, there is a
pair of symmetrical left and right steering mechanisms which act as a passive
steering.
In this bachelor thesis, a kinematic and dynamic analysis of the passive steering
is carried out as a continuation of the previous thesis. The analysis needs to be
performed considering the redesign of the steering system and mechanism.
The analysis was carried out using the vector loop-closure method. In this case,
a four-bar mechanism is constructed based on the hinges available in the left and
right steering mechanisms. In addition to kinetic loads, forces as a result of tireroad
interactions are taken into account. Specifically, the total moment of tire
scrub and jacking moment is calculated.
Upon completing the analysis, it turns out that the connecting rod experienced
the largest load and it is compressive. However, this force is still much smaller
than material’s strength and buckling limit of the rod. Another thing to note is
that the vector loop-closure is inadequate in modeling the complete mechanism.
In the future, it is recommended to use multi-body dynamic software for the
analysis.
