River transportation is the main mode of inter-village traffic in remote and remote areas of the Mentawai Islands Regency which is difficult to reach by land transportation. Generally, the Mentawai people use traditional canoes or long shaft outboard motorboats which are often referred to as pompong boats by the Mentawai people. Under certain conditions, the use of pompong boats is considered less effective due to shallow river water conditions. In low tide conditions, the pompong boat is ineffective because of the shallow height of the river and often causes damage to the pompong engine and propeller used. The development of motorboat technology used by the community in Matotonan Village seems to be running slowly, while the effectiveness and efficiency of using pompong boats is needed to support community activities. This study aims to produce alternative designs of motorboats with adaptation and technological innovation of transportation modes that can operate in the shallow waters of the Siberut River, Matotonan Village, South Siberut District.
