Summary: | Soft soil is a geotechnical condition that can cause problems in the construction of
infrastructure projects. Problems that arise can be in the form of poor slope
stability, excessive soil subsidence, potential for liquefaction, and others. This soft
soil condition can be overcome by carrying out soil improvements such as PVD,
deep soil mixing, stone column, rigid inclusion, and others.
This final project discusses the soil improvement design using rigid inclusions for
the stockyard and emplacement construction project of the Garongkong Seaport
zone 2, zone 4, and zone 5. The soil improvement design will have to overcome the
problems of embankment stability, over-settlement, and the potential for
liquefaction. In addition, the designed rigid inclusions must also be able to
withstand the axial forces and moments that occur.
The Rigid inclusion design process begins with processing field and laboratory soil
test data to obtain soil stratification. From the obtained soil stratification, soil
modelling was performed using Midas GTS NX software with plane strain mode to
evaluate embankment stability and axisymmetric mode to evaluate settlement. The
calculation of the liquefaction potential was carried out using the simplified seed
method and the safety factor of the embankment stability was analyzed using the
strength reduction method.
The evaluation results show that all zones require soil improvement to overcome
the safety factor of embankment stability and liquefaction potential which are still
lacking and only zone 5 has settlement that exceeds the requirements. Rigid
inclusions are designed using reinforced concrete material with a square pattern.
The diameters used for each zone are 0.6 meters for zone 2, 0,7 meters for zone 4,
and 0,8 meters for zone 5. Zone 2, zone 4, and zone 5 use a spacing of 1,2 meters,
1,5 meters, and 1,6 meters.
