Artemisia annua L contains artemisinin that has effect against Plasmodium falciparum, especially strain those resistant to chloroquine. Three extraction methods were used i.e. maceration with hexane and agitation, continuous extraction using Soxhlet apparatuses with hexane, and maceration percolation with methanol. The hexane extract was fractionated with methanol 60percent, subsequently the methanol fraction was fractionated with n-hexane-ethylacetat (9:1). Methanol extract was mixed with water, centrifuged, and the supernatant produced was fractionated with hexane. Concentration of hexane or hexane ethylacetat fraction produced crystal that was then recrystallized in methanol. Artemisinin yield from extraction using maceration with hexane and agitation was 0,22percent (w/w), from continuous extraction using Sohxlet apparatuses was 0,29percent (w/w) and extraction using maceration with methanol was 0,4percent (w/w). |
