Summary: | The textile industry is very closely related to human life because it is one of the basic needs for humans. Unfortunately the understanding of the system that has been used is a linear system that ends with disposal at the end of the life of a product and become waste. Therefore it is necessary to transform from a system that was originally linear to a circular system. Some ways to implementing circular textile system are with increasing clothing utilization, use effective and renewable resources and increase recycling. There has been an effort to treat textile waste, but most are downgrade or reduce the value of the fabric because it is used as insulation material or filling material. It is necessary to develop the processing of textile waste to obtain recycle product that have high quality and ready to use.
Majalaya is one of the weaving-producing regions in Indonesia, various types of woven fabric are produced in this place. There are a lot of yarn waste which are left over from the weaving process such as tangled or short pieces of yarn and make it difficult to re-use. The yarn waste management in Majalaya is still limited to being thrown away or burned, so this research aims to explore the potential of yarn waste to be reused in the weaving process. The research was conducted by exploration and experiments to process yarn waste into supplementary weft yarn so it can be utilized with weaving techniques. In addition, literature study on the processing of textile waste were also conducted. This study aims to find how to process yarn waste by upcycling methods to produce new products with higher value and quality. The reprocessing of Majalaya woven waste is expected to be one of the ways to implement circular textile system by doing recycling. |
