Description
Summary:The people's market is a place where sellers and buyers make buying and selling transactions through the bargaining process. The people's market plays a strategic role in driving the regional and national economy and is a place of social and cultural interaction for the community. However, the people's market is synonymous with shabby, chaotic, unhealthy, less safe and less comfortable conditions so that it can interfere with the comfort of visitors when shopping. These conditions are also found in the Bukittinggi City Lower Market area. In this study, a redesign of the Bukittinggi City Under market area will be carried out because there are many problems in the form of spilled markets that trigger congestion, street vendors on the roadside, overflowing garbage, and others. To solve this problem, research is carried out using a fragmental design method in which data collection is carried out in a primary (observation and interview) and secondary (literature review) manner. In this study, location observations were carried out to formulate the potential and problems contained in the location and conduct a literature review to formulate design principles and concepts, as well as design the Bukittinggi City Under market area based on design principles and concepts. The result of this study is that there are many problems in the Lower Market so that it is necessary to solve the problem by designing the Lower Market area which provides basement parking spaces, provides friendly pedestrian paths for visitors with disabilities and the elderly, provides hydrants, provides separate vehicle entrances/exits and so on.
